Hookahs in Spain

Hookahs have started to become more commonly used in Spain in the last decade or so. Just like most other countries which have not illegalized hookah possession or usage you have the option of visiting a hookah bar or café to use a hookah. There are quite a few coffee shops which are primarily open to sell various flavors of tea – these shops are called “teterias” in Spanish.

Popularity

There has been a rise in popularity of hookahs within Spain substantially in recent times and they are now used casually and are also found at various locations in larger cities. Many people also smoke hookah while at the beach or enjoying other outdoor activities.

Most tea/coffee houses which also offer hookahs are operated by Arab immigrants or someone who has connections to the Middle East and has a highly positive attitude towards the use of hookahs. These shops will probably offer usage of the hookah for anywhere around five to ten Euros per session but you could also buy a hookah for ten to seventy Euros. The tobacco and charcoal used with the hookah can be found at coffee shops that have hookahs and other stores which supply hookah products.

Since many people use a hookah to replace smoking cigarettes you may want to save money and just buy your own hookah. The only issue with this would be if you brought it to a hookah bar because it would seem like a sign of disrespect. Having your own hookah for home use and outdoor use can save you money and possible struggle trying to find a place to rent one from.
