Various cities in North America set laws against smoking inside most public places. Special permits may exist in certain places which exempt hookah businesses. Some of these permits may require the business to be profiting a certain amount from the stores alcohol or tobacco products.
Indoor Smoking Laws
Cities in North America which have set the indoor smoking bans have already forced closure of many hookah bars. Other cities also suggested the hookah bar offer an alternative like maasel to replace smoking tobacco in the hookahs.
In the last ten years the popularity of hookah bars has skyrocketed and hundreds of new hookah bars have opened in the last few years. Most people who go to hookah bars are in the younger generation and would be classified as young adults. Most hookah users are college students and hookah bars are usually found near college campuses in large cities. While hookahs are still popular in North America they are even more casually used overseas.
Hookahs are still very popular in North America and many college students and people of all demographics regularly use hookahs to smoke various products such as tobacco and marijuana.
