Smoking Ban and Hookah Bars
Many cities have been hit with the smoking ban which made it against the law to smoke in public areas and this includes inside public buildings such as hookah bars. Most places hit with these laws are in North America and Europe but various cities all across the world have certain smoking laws in place.
Alternatives – Herbal Shisha and Permits
While some hookah bars have closed down from this other bars have looked for alternatives. One method to keep open is to only offer herbal shisha which contains no tobacco but that would probably cause less interest amongst customers. Some cities may also have a ban on smoking herbal shisha inside public places but most cities have a ban on only tobacco. In order to continue offering shisha tobacco to customers the business needs a permit.
There are special permits which allow smoking inside the building and these are mostly made for hookah bars, cigar bars, and similar establishments which mainly profit from smoking activities. It’s less likely for a restaurant or bar with hookahs to be able to get the permit though.
Many hookah lounges have gone this route and have gotten a permit in order to stay open. It should not be much of an issue and any hookah bar in a larger city which primarily profits from supplying hookahs will probably make the effort to apply for a permit.
