Hookahs in the Philippines

All across the world hookahs are used both casually and socially and are growing in popularity everywhere in the world. Hookahs are popular in the Philippines but specifically within certain communities. The Indian Filipino and Arab Filipino communities may be of a minority but hookahs are extremely popular within these areas. Especially with the Muslim Filipino population the culture and social traditions originally in the Middle East were set for hookah in the Philippines as well.

Popularity

Christian Filipinos had relatively no idea or interest in hookahs before close to the end of the twentieth century. Since then the popularity of hookahs with Christian Filipinos has continued to grow quickly. A decent amount of establishments consisting of mostly expensive bars and night clubs in Makati provide hookahs to their customers or guests.

While hookahs have been used for centuries they just recently started becoming more popular in the Philippines. Especially with the younger generation hookahs have recently gained a lot of popularity in the Philippines and other nations in Asia as well. Many college students and younger adults will choose to use hookahs and in some cases those people are too young to buy cigarettes.

However, people of all statuses use hookahs on a regular basis. With the benefits added from using a hookah instead of normal cigarettes it definitely is a good alternative to smoking regular cigarettes no matter what your age or wealth may be.
