Parts of a Hookah – The Hose, Plate, and Grommets
About five or six parts of a hookah are essential for it to operate correctly. Some of these pieces include the hose, plate, and grommets. Each piece holds its own value and is an important part for different reasons.
The Hose
This is a thin tube which is used to inhale the smoke through to the user. There will be a mouthpiece (likely metal, wooden, or plastic) which is fitted at the end and may come in different designs. The hose will connect to the gasket on an opening and some hookahs allow for multiple hoses to be connected to the gasket.
The Plate
This is basically an ash tray for the hookah. The plate is used underneath the bowl to catch used coal from prior hookah sessions.
The Grommets
There will usually be a grommet located between the body and bowl, water jar and gasket, and between the hose and body. The grommet is not needed to operate the hookah but helps. Now people may choose to use paper or tape as a grommet instead. The main concern is to get the grommet to seal the joints in between each mentioned part. By sealing in between the parts just mentioned it will maximize the amount of smoke that will pass through the hose and can be inhaled.
