Common Hookah Problems

Usually when your hookah doesn’t smoke properly it’s because you mistakenly did something wrong when preparing it to be smoked. There are a few common things that could occur and you can check a few common errors people make to see if that’s the problem. While it may be a fault when your hookah was manufactured if it was working up until this point it may just be a simple mistake.

Common Mistakes

First make sure your shisha tobacco wasn’t packed in the bowl tightly. If you did this then it won’t all properly turn to smoke as there is no room for air flow. When you are preparing your shisha tobacco you will want to break it down and sprinkle it to leave room for air flow. Also make sure it doesn’t go past the rim of the bowl.

Check the coals to make sure they aren’t full of ashes. If there are ashes in the coals then you may not be able to get enough heat from the coals still alive to turn the shisha tobacco into smoke. Remove the coal ashes and put hot red coals back on the head and try again.

Check the gasket and be sure the hose is tightly connected to the hose opening. If the hose isn’t tightly fitted in place then air and smoke can escape easily. Also check if a gasket possibly burnt. Certain designs are more likely to have the gasket burnt by coals moving within the tray than others.

The last thing you could check would be the hoses. If multiple hoses are in use be sure the ends are all tightly plugged in. if only one person is using the hookah but there are multiple hose openings then remove the other hoses and place rubber stoppers or tape on the holes to prevent bad air flow.

Usually if you checked the four common errors you can probably solve your problem. If the problem has not been solved then try some trial and error or invest in a new hookah as they are relatively cheap anyways.
