Parts of a Hookah – The Bowl
The bowl (or head) of a hookah is a small container (usually constructed with clay or marble) which is used to hold the tobacco and coal while smoking the hookah. The user will pack the bowl with tobacco and use a little piece of tin foil (or a screen) to cover the bowl before placing lit coals on top of the tin foil or screen. The lit coals will work to heat the tobacco hot enough to be smoked from the hookah.
Fruit Bowl
There are various substitutes to a basic bowl or head on a hookah. One of those would be to use a fruit instead of a basic clay or marble bowl. This is done by gutting the insides of a fruit and cutting a hole through the fruit to create the same structure as the clay or marble bowl would have. When using a fruit bowl instead of one of the default bowls you use the same steps to load the bowl and smoke the hookah.
With most hookahs the bowl pieces will be easily removable. You can probably buy hookah heads online and in some local shops as well. You can find various customized designs which can make your hookah look fashionable and add some extra value to it. The materials used to make hookahs are starting to change though and some of the cheaper hookahs are made of Pyrex and hookah bowls may also be made with Pyrex.
