How to Set Up a Hookah – Proper Air Flow

Preparing a hookah to be used is an easy task and will just take some practice. After using a hookah a few times it will become a very easy pattern to follow and you shouldn’t have any difficulties preparing the hookah for usage. The first thing a beginner must do, especially when using the hookah for the first time, is check for proper air flow. This guide will cover how to do so and once you complete this you can advance to actually using the hookah.

Guide

Start by putting the hookah stem into the glass vase. It should be fitted with an airtight seal. Then place the metal tray on top of the hookah stem. Different designs will have a different fit so your metal tray may be a loose fit or it might snap in place. Smaller hookahs may also have pre-attached trays.

Now place the end of the hose into the hose opening on the gasket. Unscrew the air release valve (not all models have one) to be sure there’s a ball bearing inside. If there is then screw the air release valve back on. If your hookah has an air release valve it will likely be located on the opposite positioning of the hose opening.

Make sure you have proper air flow conducting in your hookah. To do this place your finger on the hookah stem and suck through the hose. If there is no air intake or minimal air intake then your hookah is sealed enough. Some designs will also have a check valve. If you have a check valve on your hookah then blow into the hose and listen for air escaping through the check valve.

As long as your hookah has proper air flow you can continue preparing it to be used. If your hookah has proper air flow then continue to the guide which explains how to actually use your hookah.
